Mother Nature helped the Dunedin Blue Jays to a 3-0 rain-shortened victory Sunday.
Knology Park has never been too kind to the Miracle in the past, proving that once again as time ran out on the Miracle in the bottom of the sixth. Jays starter Kenny Rodriguez wasn’t too kind either allowing just one Miracle hit in his six innings of work.
As it did on Saturday, Dunedin jumped on the board with an early first inning run. Chris Emanuele led off with a single to center and scored promptly on Travis Snider’s double to left. Five of the Jays six hits Sunday were in the two-base variety, leading to two more runs in the bottom of the fourth and sixth innings.
Paul Franko and Jesus Gonzalez teamed up to bring in the Jays second run in the fourth. Franko and Cory Patton combined on doubles in the sixth before the rain arrived in Dunedin.
The lone bright spot for the Miracle was a two-out single by Toby Gardenhire in the Miracle third. Gardenhire was the only Miracle baserunner.
Rodriguez, in his first professional start, got the win tossing all six innings, allowing one hit with seven strikeouts.
The teams wrap up the series at 7 p.m. Monday night. The Miracle send Alex Burnett to the mound against Julio Pinto.
