Rays knock off Yankees 13-4
ST. PETERSBURG (AP) – B.J. Upton ruined CC Sabathia’s bid to become a 20-game winner, going 5-for-5 while hitting for the cycle and driving in a career-high six runs to help the Tampa Bay Rays beat the New York Yankees 13-4 Friday night.
Sabathia (19-8) failed to get through the third inning, matching a personal worst by allowing nine runs – five earned – in 2 2/3 innings.
Upton hit a three-run triple in the first inning off Sabathia, then doubled in the third. After a two-run homer off Jonathan Albaladejo in the fourth, he completed the cycle with a run-scoring single in the fifth.
Marlins 7, Phillies 2: Rick VandenHurk overcame Ryan Howard’s early home run and Florida once again beat NL East champion Philadelphia.
Cameron Maybin had four hits, scored three times and drove in a run, and Jorge Cantu drove in three runs. The Marlins have won six of the last seven against the Phillies.
Howard’s 44th homer accounted for the Phillies’ only runs. He connected in the first inning and leads the majors with 140 RBI.
