Two Dolphins Pro Bowl picks
MIAMI (AP) – Joey Porter has another reason to boast. Leading the AFC with 17 1/2 sacks, the outspoken Miami Dolphins linebacker was selected Tuesday to start the Pro Bowl. Porter already has toppled his career high of 10 1/2 sacks, set twice with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He is also a strong candidate for Defensive Player of the Year.
Running back Ronnie Brown is the only other Miami player voted to the game. He was selected as a reserve for the AFC.
Dolphins left tackle Jake Long and kicker Dan Carpenter led the voting at their positions among fans, but didn’t get enough support from coaches and players to earn spots.
The AFC and NFC squads are made up of the consensus votes of fans, players and coaches. Each group’s vote counts one-third toward the 43-man rosters. The Pro Bowl will be played Feb. 8 at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu.
