Autumn programs are ‘spring-like:’ bursting out all over
What an array of choice programs are available through October at the Cape Coral Library.
Have a desire to write the great American novel? Here’s a chance to write it or at least give it a pretty hefty start with some other samplings along the way:
Saturday, Oct. 3, from 23 p.m.: NaNoWriMo Workshop which stands for National Novel Writing Month. Accept the challenge to write a 50,000-word novel by Nov. 30 (midnight). Learn the techniques for building the plot and planning the work. (This program is available to both adults and teens.)
To help keep motivation high while dissecting the works of others, there is:
– Wednesday, Oct. 14, at 2 p.m.: Book Talk. The discussion surrounds Lisa See’s World War II era work, China Dolls.
– Tuesday, Oct. 20, at 1 p.m.: Author Carol Williams’ “Burning Down the Country House” is a study of the deception, power-plays and ignorance of spiritual poverty.
– Tuesday, Oct. 27, at 9:30 a.m., Books and Banter will explore food memoirs – finding and/or growing food, preparation and enjoyment. (Refreshments will be available; compliments of the Friends of the Cape Coral Library.)
Interested in stress management through meditative flow and therapeutic balance?
– Wednesdays, Oct. 7 and Oct. 21, at 9:30 a.m., join like-minded individuals for Hatha Yoga.
– Thursday, Oct. 15, at 11 a.m., meditation in motion is presented through a Tai Chi/QiGong session.
For those with a hankering for nostalgic, soothing music, something out of the routine cultural offerings:
– Saturday, Oct. 10, from 23:30 p.m., lap dulcimers and auto harp music will be fill the meeting room and the hallways as Connie and Frank Dennis demonstrate these unique instruments. This promises to be a soothing way to enjoy a different musical experience.
In addition to story times and other programs for the youngest through teens, there are a few special offerings:
– Wednesday, Oct. 6, at 10 a.m., LEGOS for Littles! Bring the youngest (2 5) for a fun morning of building.
And it wouldn’t be October without something for Halloween:
– Tuesday, Oct. 27, from 11 a.m. ’til 4:30 p.m.: Stop in the Gallery hallway and make a special Halloween craft. Examples, along with all supplies are provided. And for those familiar with the Friends of the Cape Coral Library, you’ll appreciate the head start they’re offering for holiday gifts for your book loving friends. The 2016 Book Lover’s Calendar is now available at the Library check-out desk for only $8. These calendar days are replete with quotes from some of the best books (and authors) ever published. While you’re selecting gifts to help the Library while remembering your friends, be sure to purchase a “go green” tote bag for only $3 as well. These items help the Friends of the Cape Coral Library pay for programs such as those listed above.

Creations by The Decorative Artists of Southwest Florida will be on display on both the walls and in the cases of the gallery. Members of DASF belong to the International Society of Decorative Painters. Their objective is to promote the art of painting for those who wish to learn to paint in any of a wide variety of mediums. DASF welcomes people of all ages and all levels of ability ranging from those with no experience to the accomplished professional artist. Members are most generous in sharing their talents and their time.
Examples of work created by the Decorative Artists include painted furniture, trays, wall pictures, shoes, caddies, serving pieces and much more.

A reminder: Cape Coral Library’s art gallery is unique to libraries; the exhibits represent local, national and internationally renowned artists so take time to frequent this gallery which gives so much visual wealth to Cape Coral residents.

All Lee County Library System programs are free and open to the public. A sign language interpreter is available with 48 hours’ notice. Call the Deaf Service Center at 461-0334 (voice) or 461-4348 (TTY). Assisted living devices are available. The Lee County Library System also offers free access to books, DVDs, videos, books on CD, electronic resources and other items from a vast collection.
The Lee County Library System makes it possible for people who ordinarily couldn’t visit the library to enjoy reading through the Bookmobile, Books-by-MAIL, Talking Books and Literacy programs.
All of the money the Friends of the Cape Coral Library raise is through book sales, dues and other events and items and results in the purchase of materials, furniture and other items that can not be included in the County library budget. Books, CDs, DVDs, etc. are accepted throughout the year for the book sales, the major fundraisers. (November and April.) Small quantities can be delivered to the library circulation desk.
