It may be worth the time to touch up paint before selling

3 min read

Q: Bob, Love your advice on the subject of painting (help me before I put my house up for sale).

Ben

A: Ben, just keep reading hopefully my readers are getting something from my columns.

Now. If the out side is badly in need of paint, it may be worth your time to paint it before you start showing the house. Trust me in this market EVERYTHING helps. Chipped and faded paint is not only unsightly, but may discourage a sale. Most people do not want to move in and have to undertake such a big job. The same advice goes for the inside.

There is no point in completely repainting or papering your walls since the buyer may want to select his/her own colors or patterns. However, if a particular room looks especially shabby, it may be worth your effort to paint it. Neutral colors are best. I know this reached you in time as your letter stated, Good luck.

Thanks for a great and happy holidays. As 2008 is almost over and so is the holiday season. I want to take this opportunity to say a heartfelt “thank you” to all of you readers from Cape Coral, Fort Myers and all of Lee County who’ve written, called or visited me as a results of this column.

It’s definitely been my pleasure through the year to provide you with the information that may have helped you in buying or selling a home. I shall look forward to serving your real estate information needs in the upcoming year.

Perhaps now is a good time for all of us to recount some of the many blessings we enjoy in this great country of ours.

First and foremost, we should be thankful that we live in a country where we are free, a fact that we sometimes take for granted, I’m afraid.

Also as a nation, we currently enjoy a level (if not for the rescission) of prosperity unheard of (it will return) of any country in recorded history. This fact, combined with our freedom, provides us with opportunities that other inhabitants in this world can only dream of, if that.

Finally, we still have plenty of things to deal with .I don’t express my political beliefs in my columns. However, two of our things to deal with is the recession and the war that costs billions of dollars that could held some of the people losing their house and job. The 12-15 billion a MONTH could help some of the poor. Terrorism is everywhere- we will overcome because as a nation, on balance, we can pride ourselves on being among the most caring, giving and compassionate people on earth. Truly, we Americans have been blessed beyond measure. Keep the faith and stay positive. May 2009 be the best.

P.S. A special thanks to Stephanie, Jack, Chris, Valarie and all of the Breeze staff for their help and support through the past year.

A VERY HAPPY, HEALTHY NEW YEAR TO ALL!
