To the editor:

In my 35 years as a Cape Coral resident, I have seen all kinds of people run for city council. Some have their heart in the right place, while others leave office in handcuffs. I believe most of us want the same thing from a councilperson — someone who puts community over self interest. A person who has the experience to know what questions to ask, and to use our tax dollars wisely. No other candidate for city council exemplifies these qualities more than Dr. Carol Rae Culliton.

I have personally known Carol for 10 years, and I cannot think of a better person to work for Cape Coral as our councilperson. Since her arrival to Cape Coral, she identified several critical needs and went right to work to solve them. Most notably, Carol recognized the dire need for an animal shelter in Cape Coral. She spearheaded the effort to bring a high quality, compassionate animal shelter to our community, and the Cape Coral Animal Shelter now stands as testament to her dedication to animals.

Carol also recognized that our city has one of the highest number of military veterans per capita in the country, and that many of their needs were being left unfulfilled. As always, she stepped up to serve others. She founded the Brotherhood of Heroes Museum and Resource Center, providing the community with an opportunity to honor and learn of the many sacrifices our military and their families have given over our nation’s history. As part of the museum, Carol enlisted the partnership of Sheriff Marceno and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office to bring a Community Outreach Center to Cape Coral. Her support of an incredibly long list of charitable organizations is truly amazing, improving the lives of thousands of people throughout our city.

Her commitment to community is unrivaled. However, where Carol will bring the most benefit to the city is value. Carol’s education and experience will prove invaluable to the city council. I know she will never shy away from asking challenging questions to city management to ensure the best value is obtained for our taxpayer dollars. Watching her manage other projects, I know she will not stand for wasteful projects and squandering of money. We need Carol on council representing us.

I am personally grateful for all Carol has done for our city, and I am thankful Carol is bringing her brand of relentless service to others to benefit all of us. Carol Rae Culliton has my full and enthusiastic support, and I hope you will join me in voting for her.
