Keep up the good fight

Regarding the article dated July 8, 2022; “P&Z approved land use on Pine Island Road District.”

I am working with residents concerned about the environmental impacts and precedent that will be established if the Mast Canal is filled in to make way for a car wash. During this process we have been told multiple times by the mayor, City Council members and city staff that a decision made by the Council cannot be changed. “The Mast Canal is not in my jurisdiction as a council member to make changes to what was done long before me on council” — Jennifer Nelson, Councilperson, District 4.

We are told there is no method that will allow for fixing bad decisions, decisions made in error, when new information comes to light or when information provided is incorrect or changes.

Our advice to all residents of Cape Coral and especially, Deborah Swisher and James Hawk, is to continue to be concerned, to make your voices heard, organize, keep up the good fight and don’t believe anyone who says this decision won’t be permanent.
