Elected superintendent? It’s time

To the editor:

As far as one can see, the old establishment is not happy with Gov. DeSantis making the position of school superintendent an elected, by-the-people, not the who’s who in Lee County. If the person wanting the job is qualified, so be it. Time to put the “old boy system” to bed.

Why not open this important job overseeing a multiple-million dollar system to an expert in major financing and running a system with thousands of our children in the school system?

I am sure there are many qualified people here in Lee County who can do the job. Will this new law extend to the charter school system? I would hope so — the two tax-supported systems are getting out of hand.
