Someone’s nose is growing…

By Staff | May 13, 2022

To the editor:

I grew up in Cape Coral, my family moved here in 1978. I remember when our waters were clear, blue and full of life. I remember when we had hundreds of crabs on our dock walls and Lake O waters were a clear tea color, not the mucky brown full of pollutants we have today. I remember when the fish did not have tumors or wash up on local beaches. I remember when we did not have toxic algae blooms. How did things get this way? Well let me break it down for you.

Recently I saw a local Congressman posted an online photo and ad showing himself with an environmental group on the beach. In the ad he claims he is working for Florida’s waters.

If there is one thing I cannot stand, it is lying or someone who misrepresents their record.

As a former constituent caseworker for a Republican- turned-independent who had a perfect environmental record and former University Library staff member, I feel it is my responsibility to inform the public of the facts when things like this go on.

The Congressman’s record on water is a solid F. F as in FAILING.

He has consistently voted against legislation that would improve our water quality for years. In addition, he accepts money from a major polluter of U.S. waterways, Koch, who control the PAC “Americans for Prosperity.”

So I ask everyone to take a look at his record by going on your computers, google the League of Conservation Voter Scorecard. Click on the state of Florida and take a look for yourselves. The League is a non partisan group that bases scores on how representatives vote.

Someone who misrepresents their record to the public has no business being in office.
