Plea to the new CCPD chief: Please address speeders, loud exhausts

By Staff | May 27, 2021

To the editor:

The following is an open letter to our new Chief of Police Anthony Sizemore:

Dear Chief Sizemore:

We are year-round residents of Cape Coral since April 17, 2018. We really enjoy Cape Coral and are delighted to see the continued low crime statistics for our city.

We have one observation, shared by all our friends that live here, that as a new chief you have an opportunity to address. Simply put, there appears to be almost no speed or loud muffler enforcement. When we drive on Cape Coral Parkway, Del Prado, Veterans Parkway, Chiquita, Skyline Boulevard — you name — at the speed limit, we are always blown away by cars going WELL over the speed limit, often weaving in and out and frequently changing lanes at will. Our auto insurance rates increased significantly when we moved here, a further indication of the problem.

The second issue is ultra-loud mufflers. When we eat outdoor on Cape Coral Parkway, as we do regularly, rarely a night goes by without one or often more than one vehicle with mufflers(?) so loud that all conversation stops. I am not talking a little loud, I am talking ear-splitting loud.

I encourage you to get the community behind you and set out to fix these two problems so prevalent here in Cape Coral.

Most sincerely,

Edward P. Pearsall
