History illustrates socialism’s harms

By Staff | Dec 10, 2020

To the editor:

The reason that “liberalism” (“socialism”) is so dangerous to America is that they never learn from their failures (welfarism) or from the success of “capitalism.” The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings, the inherent virtue of socialism is the equal sharing of misery. The essence of our contemporary application of Keynesian economics is best described by analyst Michael Metrosky. “Spend all the money you have. When you run out of money, borrow all you can and spend that, too. When nobody will loan you any more money, just print the money and keep on spending.” It’s a fitting epitaph for an economy in the process of being killed by the likes of Mr. Krogman, the New York Times and the “Keynesians” in Washington who have been in charge over the past many administrations.

Nobody gets under the skin of conservatives and libertarians like Paul Krogman. Lately he’s sunk to a new low by claiming that the underlying motivation for conservative views is racial. He wrote, “race is the Rosetta Stone that makes sense…of U.S. politics.” He claims that conservative politics is driven by the belief that the government is taking their hard- earned money to give to minorities!

Arguments like this further drive a wedge between races and the two political parties. It’s more than divisive, it’s hateful. The reality is that the conservatives want to see minorities succeed. For the most part they bend over backwards to help people. Conservatives are known to be far more charitable than liberals. They are not in the least threatened by the success of anyone.

Nothing threatens American freedom like the rise of socialism. The main tenements of socialism abolish private property and the market system and turn the ownership of business over to the government. For all intents and purposes, socialism and communism are identical. Suddenly socialism has begun to attract adherents in the U.S. Editor Michael Snyder writes Americans are increasingly embracing socialism, and that’s particularly true for the young adults under the age of 30. Four out of every ten Americans now prefer socialism to capitalism, and if current trends continue it is just a matter of time before those who prefer socialism are in the majority. Unfortunately it attracts the millennials and the welfare class, social warriors, demonstrators and criminals who see a way to distribute other people’s wealth to themselves. The possible affiliation of lawbreakers with socialism threatens our civilization. In the last century, collectivist governments murdered 100 million people. That’s never seemed to bother the liberal media outlets like the New York Times.

Ludwig von Mises issued a stark warning to the advocates of socialism. The worship of state is the worship of force. There is no more dangerous menace to civilization that a government of incompetent corrupt or vile men. The worst evils which mankind ever had to endure were inflicted by bad governments. The state can be and has often been in the course of history the main source of mischief and disaster. Once these leftist take over a country through elections or revolution, constitutional protections are quickly eliminated. Those who resist are imprisoned or murdered. Just look at Venezuelans and Cuba, Russia, etc. Today’s youthful crew of Bernie Sanders followers pay no attention to history.

No other political idea ever spread so far, so fast or created such misery and failure! The horrible slaughter and destruction through which it has laid waste to vast regions of Eastern Europe and Asia give evidence of this. Socialism in all its forms from Wall Street subsidy-seekers to bureaucratic profiteers is in practice a conspiracy of the greedy to exploit the productive!
