Concerned about trash? Be part of the solution
To the editor:
Hello, city leaders of Cape Coral… are you listening?
We have read the many letters, with great interest, written to the editor in your Cape Coral Breeze newspapers, most recently the April 17 and April 24 editions. Hats off to Terry Trombetti, Jack Wagner, Sheila Keith, John Benedict and Sandra Sneed.
We moved to Cape Coral nearly five years ago and it did not take us long to realize that this city has a serious problem with trash. We have roadside trash (lots of plastic bottles, beer bottles, fast food containers, gloves and masks and even needles and syringes), we have bulk trash, we have Dumpster overload trash, we have construction trash and we have business trash. We have trash everywhere!!! Has anyone noticed the signs at each entry to our city that clearly read, “Help Us Keep Cape Coral Clean?” It’s just not happening.
On a daily basis, we walk and we bike. Never do we go out without gloves and trash bags. It is so easy to fill four or five bags on any outing We have gone downtown, we have gone up and down Del Prado, we have gone up and down Hancock Bridge to 41 and many neighborhoods from one end of the Cape to the other. Has anyone noticed the sides of Veterans Parkway? There is no shortage of trash.
We invite every homeowner, every business, every LeeTran bus stop to take a moment, look at your properties and ask, what can I do to help this problem? Five minutes of your time and a trash bag would make such a difference. If we all pitched in and helped just a little, Cape Coral could look so much better.
Important names and phone numbers to call regarding the trash — if you see it, call it in! Many times the homeowners do not realize that they need to call.
