Where did the ‘spirit’ go?

To the editor:

“The shining light of liberty,, the beacon of hope for the citizens of the United States appears to have been rekindled with the campaign of Donald Trump. His slogan, Make America great again, resonates to an awaking populace seeking a rebirth of times past. Those of us who were raised during and soon after WWII remember the pride shared among us. We were “Americans” and we knew we were the best in the world!

With the rise of liberalism in the 1960s – ’70s future educators, with good intentions, sought to serve the underprivileged. The civil rights movement gave impetus to this well-meaning goal but in the process it stripped away the corollary, and that was to seek education, desire employment, and to be a responsible citizen. This country fell well short of the mark. Cohesive families gave way to wide spread single family acceptance. Out of wedlock babies no longer attached a societal feeling of shame. All now was accepted.

To many of the millennials this will indeed seem a strange reaction for today single parent families are common. The instillment of proper interaction was shoveled to the corner for now, all was to be accepted. In the land of the forgiven forgiveness is not needed. There are few rules save to allow others to do their thing.
