Dollars and sense

To the editor:

I never understood why a previous Council cut our police and fire personnel. Yes, we lost population but we never lost the square miles that needed protecting.

I was baffled when the current Council lowered the speed limit on some streets even though the police chief said the problem was lack of resources to effectively patrol. Now, we make a decision to return bar hours to the original 2 a.m. because of a lack of police personnel. The Police Chief requested additional officers and has been told we need to wait until next budget year.

Hopefully, we will open our eyes and look at more than cost in dollars. There’s a higher price to think about and that is our safety.
