Beautifying the Cape Coral Parkway median
To the editor:
Recently our mayor proposed that she wanted to revitalize the center median on Cape Coral Parkway from Coronado to Del Prado to help beautify the downtown district. I drive this thoroughfare daily and, at best, it needs a clean up, which can be bid out to our local landscapers.
The main detractor of the downtown area is the outdated and hodgepodge edifices along the route. What the downtown lacks is a viable theme. Perhaps an effort could be put forth to induce landlords and shop owners to remodel their storefronts with a look consistent with South Florida.
Let us not forget that Mayor Marni not long ago desired to re-carpet council offices at a cost of over $70,000. We no longer have inexhaustible deep pockets. Those monies have gone to excessive fire assessments and utility surcharges.
If any median needs beautification, one need only to ride up Skyline Boulevard from Trafalgar to Pine Island Road. After the water project completion, we anticipated to see some form of landscaping to the center median. Thus far, nothing. It’s hideous and a blight. It’s mind-boggling that some of the establishments in that area have not pressured Mayor Marni to address this much-needed beautification project on Skyline.
