Flip flopping or amnesia?
To the editor:
While listening to Pres. B.H. Obama share a bit of his infinite wisdom on the evils of our lack of meaningful government controls and management of gun sales in the U.S.A., I was instantly reminded of two specific items. No. 1, the founding fathers put the Second Amendment in place to assure the citizens of the U.S.A. they would never be subjected to rule by any unfit government and caught unarmed, even in the event it should be our own wonderful government. Removing this right would guarantee us another progression to complete subjugation.
He appears to have a very short memory. In 2006 and again in 2009, his administration executed two programs they named (2006) “Wide Receiver” and in 2009, “Fast & Furious.” After the failure of the first program, they done it again! Under these two programs, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, & Explosives Phoenix Field Division, along with other partners, allowed illegal gun sales, believed destined for Mexican drug cartels, in order to track the sellers and purchasers.
Like most subversive government programs of this nature, these were both abject failures. It has been reported that 1,400 weapons were “lost” by the ATF in Mexico. Two of the missing weapons linked to the operation turned up at the Arizona murder scene of a U.S.A. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry. “Straw purchasers (also called straw buyers) bought firearms on behalf of others without disclosing that fact on the forms required by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, & Firearms.” This was done with full knowledge of the Department of Justice. Both programs, “Wide Receiver: and “Fast & Furious” failed miserably, like most government programs of this nature. Do any of you remember the infamous “Iran-Contra” deal of a few decades ago involving Ollie North? Same thing -?different political party -identical result.
On April 1, 2011, the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee launched an investigation. After months of stalling, sand bagging, and other divisive maneuvers, guess what happened on June 20, 2012? Pres. BH Obama asserted executive privilege over all of the pertinent documents sought by the investigating committee. This act prevented any future prosecution of Eric Holder, the then Attorney General. This smacks of total deviousness and despotic behavior.
When I see politicians such as Pres. BH Obama shedding “crocodile tears” about gun violence I cannot help but wonder if he suffers from selective amnesia or does he simply speak with a “forked tongue” or perhaps has little or no scruples. It is little wonder most citizens do not trust our government.
