Tornado rally fundraiser to benefit Cape Coral victims

2 min read

To the editor:

As we all know, neighborhoods in Cape Coral took a big hit over the weekend. About 200 homes were damaged by a tornado with wind speeds up to 132 mph. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured or killed in its path of destruction. However, the structural damage it caused is devastating. One home is completely destroyed and many others are seriously damaged, leaving many Cape Coral families with nothing. BackStreets Sports Bar, along with The Clanton Gang, The Beach Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge, Gear Head Tattoo, and The Cottage Bar have teamed up to help those in need. Backstreets Sports Bar is having a rally to benefit those affected by this disaster on Sunday, Jan. 17, from 8 p.m.-midnight. All the monies raised will go to The Red Cross to help families in need of immediate assistance.

This is where you come in – we need donations of daily necessities, such as clothes, shoes, blankets, household appliances, pet food, and non-perishable food items. The two drop-off locations for such donations are Gear Head Tattoo (4425 Del Prado Blvd., Cape Coral), and Masonic Lodge (244 Santa Barbara Blvd. Cape Coral). We also need help getting the word out, and we need as many raffle prizes that we can get! Gift cards, gift baskets, hotel stays, golf packages, TVs, bicycles, and spa/hair treatments are just a few examples. If you, or anyone you know, would like to donate items such as these to raffle off, please contact Keith Clanton (keith.clanton@yahoo.com) Dawn Gaylor (gaylordawn@yahoo.com, or Shelly at BackStreets Sports Bar 239-945-7555 for more information. You can send or drop off any donation prizes at BackStreets Sports Bar: 915 S.E. 47th Terrace Cape Coral, Fl 33904. Any monetary donations should be made out to Cape Coral Tornado Victims, and mailed to Beach Baptist Church: 130 Connecticut Street, Fort Myers Beach, 33904. They have tax receipts available if you need them.
