A great gift for Cape residents
To the editor:
Cape Coral needs to give its citizens a Christmas present. We need a commitment to purchase the “Old” Golf Course and convert it into a “New Family Fun Memorial Park!”
Think how great the park could be. Part of the golf course would be for golf bat “pitch and putt golf”. More families could afford “pitch and putt golf” and you only need two clubs and it only takes about 1-1/2 hours for 19 holes and it can be walked, no carts.
The next fun focus would be a tropical themed “Splash Pad. A “Splash Pad” is great fun, water shoots out of the pad through what could be sharks, whales, fish, palm trees. Check out “Splash Pad” web sites. Las Vegas parks have 27 “Splash Pads.” I cannot believe that Cape Coral has none.
The rest of the park would be focused on other sports. We could have frisbee golf, tennis and pickleball courts, basketball court, volleyball, racket ball court, bocci ball, walking and bike and skate board paths, garden area for yoaga and tai chi classes, a club house/food stand with picnic area. Are you seeing how fun it could be?
How would we pay for this? It will be a “Memorial Park.” The funds would come from us citizens. Golfers could pay? $10,000 to get a hole named after them and free golf. Local business could buy the basketball courts with their name on it, the Italian American Club could buy the Bocci Ball court, a bait shop might buy the shark for the “Splash Pad,” a family might buy a park bench as a memorial, etc. Get the idea? Get the whole community excited about saving the golf course. People will take pride in what they help create. Walking in the park you could point out “look grandchild, our family bought that palm tree in honor of you when you were born.” Pride!
We need the new council to commit to making the “Old” golf course into the “Cape Coral Memorial Family Golf and Sports Park! It will be a great legacy and Christmas present for all!
Thank you and happy holiday.
