Northwest residents don’t want high-rise development
To the editor:
I ask the following of the city of Cape Coral’s elected officials and city managers:
As a resident in the northwest Cape, I read with great concern the article about the Seven Islands. Javier Omana, director of Land Planning Services, reported in that article that the “charrette process” was enlightening with ideas for both land and water use. I attended the meetings and witnessed northwest Cape residents’ comments; all were adamantly against high rises being built on the Seven Islands property. Although I do not live directly across from the Seven Islands, I am concerned for all of us who chose this rural, preserve-ladened northwest Cape as our home. I ask you the following questions and trust you have a response to the people of the northwest Cape.
1. Why would you put up such an obstruction as high rises when the people said “NO”? Seriously, for the money????? The revenue for this purchase came from your taxpayers and those of us who purchased the land with our taxes do not want high rises.
2. Why would you set such a precedence for future high rise structures along preserve land? If you, the City of Cape Coral do this, then any builder will be able to purchase land along the preserve of Old Burnt Store Road and do the very same.
3. Why did you even bother to hold meetings and tell us repeatedly that you “were going to do what the people wanted, not what the city politicians wanted” and now you have violated your commitment to all who were present in those meetings? This is just one more example of politicians running amok and serving themselves while dismissing the clear and distinct desires of the people.
