Kay Hurtt will be missed

To the editor:

Our friend Kay Hurtt passed on Nov. 13, 2015 after a long illness. Her husband John Hurtt and family members were at her side.

Her memorial was held on Nov. 16, at Church of the Epiphany in Cape Coral. Fr. Ryan Wright, Priest in Charge along with Kay’s son-in-law led a beautiful memorial for her.

The church was packed with Kay’s friends. The Elks ladies from Lodge 2576 were all dressed up wearing their pins. Kay would have been proud of them. Her Elks card friends were in attendance. Nancy Hepburn led us all in the Ladies of the Elks prayer.

The Power Squadron along with the Paradise Pirates Boat Club which John and Kay were members attended and helped fill the church.

Kay’s daughter and two sons along with their spouses and grandchildren, cousins and nephews were all present. Kay’s sister and brother-in-law flew in from Seattle.

The granddaughters dressed up knowing that their grandmother would have been so proud.

The following was written by the grandchildren.

“Our forever 29 year-old grandmother was a teacher, traveler, and mother. To the woman who taught us to never be without chocolate, we will also always know grace and poise because of you. If there was a sale at Nordstrom she was not far away, same with our graduations, dance recitals, softball games, anywhere we were performing or celebrating. Because of Grandma we know that cookies and fudge are as big a part of Christmas as a decorated tree. Her favorite books became ours.

Grandma, we love you, and hope to someday be a grandma just like you.
