Voter turnout is shameful

1 min read

To the editor:

I’m 66 years old and have voted in all the elections during my life time. I remember feeling privileged when I turned legal age and I was allowed to vote, yes count backwards, it was a time of great change and I believe I made a difference with my vote.

This last election and previous elections in Cape Coral have left me the feeling of disgust. Wake up people – you can make a change but you have to be involved by voting. Only 14 percent of registered voters voted!

Nations (ours) have had revolutions, people have died for the right to vote. We live in the greatest nation in the world and unfortunately its citizens show by not voting, they don’t care, and have become complacent.

If you looked up from your electronic leashes (smart phones, video games, etc.) and spent a few minutes thinking how lucky we are to be United States citizens, you would, I hope make an effort.

Wake up, American, be proud and vote.
