Some clarification
To the editor:
This letter is in reference to the one P. Brandt wrote on Oct. 16. His statements were so far from the truth that I cannot ignore what he has written.
First, the Police did not interview. The Fire Union did and the chair of that committee started the interview with the statement that I had much to overcome since I had been Bill Deile’s campaign manager. My response was that while it is true I worked for Bill’s election eight years ago, I did not watch Council meetings nor advise Bill, since I was deeply involved in my role on the Lee Memorial Board. I told the Interview Committee that I should not be held accountable for what they saw as non-support from that Council member. However, I do understand all of the Unions’ decision to support their brother in service, J. Doviak. I believe my win was due to living and volunteering in this community for 33 years.
Since Pete also questions my resolve in NOT becoming a Municipal Electric Utility, let me once again assure you I will not vote to become an MEU. It takes 5 votes to take action. I will vote yes on a referendum… a tie vote on any motion means it dies and the present contract continues unchanged.
Lastly, to further explain my last letter, while Moody’s rating is Aa3 (a step below AA), Standard and Poor’s rating is AA. It’s unfortunate some candidates don’t understand bond ratings and debt, yet if elected would vote to expand utilities which will cause more bonds being issued to cover the project; thus increasing the debt. In a conversation with the Financial Services Director last week, we have NO debt being paid with ad valorem property tax dollars. That should bring comfort to property owners.
