Put more money to parks, amenities

I write again about our parks.
Jaycee Park is the land of the forgotten. Trees being eaten by the air plants that should have been sprayed with pesticides and were not, pines that are dying at the water’s edge with moss and other things. When these are gone it will not be a park any longer, just open hot space. The mowing that is done is horrible, the grass is all gouged out from the weight of the mowers and the clippings are never cleaned up. The poles that are on the ground for markings are all decayed, the huts where tables are, are just filthy. Swings are missing, the ones for older kids and adults who use the park and pay taxes, by the way. Where do our tax dollars go? They certainly are not spent here. Now the city wants to spend money on the park up near Burnt Store. News flash – no one is ever there. Been there many times and no one is there. Must be like the clinic near the mayor’s residence. Trash bins need to be cleaned. The park ranger, and I use that term lightly, needs to do more than chat or take pictures with people. Just fix things the correct way the first time. At least the clock works on Cape Coral Parkway now.
Also, are we ever going to replace that sad Christmas tree? With over 150,000-plus people living here don’t you think a grander tree would be nice? They have a nicer one in the lobby of Sanibel Harbor. The one we have is pathetic.
Cape Coral has been called the land of the newlyweds and nearly deads for a reason. That is what it has become. There is nothing to do here except eat at the pizza joints, go to sports bars or coffee shops. We are not a small town like beautiful Pine Island. We are a big city that acts like a small town. Use some incentives like Estero and get some companies here for the city and the people to work at; we certainly have the space with all the empty buildings around. Do more art shows, put on some fashion shows. We used to have functions down town now they have dwindled. The economy has picked up so should this city.
I shall keep up with this and keep writing until I see some changes as to where our tax dollars go to.
