Candidate responds to Democratic Party mailing
To the editor:
The Florida Democratic Party in Tallahassee mailed out a character bashing, despicable piece of mail this week aimed at Cape Coral voters. They reference a Federal Tax Lien in the amount of $36,865 that they uncovered filed with the Lee County Circuit Court. They refer to me as “An accountant with a money problem,” “An irresponsible choice” and “Barrier can’t be trusted with his own financial responsibilities” along with “Financial Mismanagement.”
In 2009 I withdrew money from a 401-k retirement account and paid cash for my home in Cape Coral. This created a large tax debt. Because the tax debt exceeded $25,000 IRS placed a lien on my home. I worked out a plan with IRS which I repaid in about 2-1/2 years. IRS then released their lien. It’s standard procedure with IRS when the amount of taxes owed exceed $25,000 they place a lien on the taxpayer’s home to insure payment of the tax debt.
I knew going into this series of transactions exactly how the tax laws worked. Rather than take out a bank mortgage on my home in Cape Coral, IRS became the short-term note holder.
Is this the best that the Democratic Party can come up with? This is the biggest and worst dirt they can find and then smear my character and integrity? Come on! Ten months ago I was a Joe Nobody cutting the grass, washing windows and paying my electric bill. Now as a candidate for Cape Coral City Council from District 7 I have the STATE DEMOCRATIC PARTY dumping on me. Incredible!! Just incredible!!
