Vote for candidates who do not want to take over LCEC electric services

The topic of the city council and LCEC is much discussed these days. I have not heard one person say that they are in favor of the city of Cape Coral managing our electrical system.
According to the city charter, the sole decision of Cape Coral taking over LCEC will be up to the city council. There will not be a vote from you, the citizens-you will have no say in the matter, but you will bear the impact of the council’s decision. Only three of the candidates running for city council have already stated that they will not vote for the city to run LCEC. You have their publicly stated word on this. They are not fence-sitters waiting to see which way the wind blows. These candidates have no ulterior motives for wanting the electric facility under city management.
It will cost as much as $500 million to buy LCEC and that is only the beginning. There are always unexpected situations and resulting costs. Are you aware that if the city controls our electricity and a major disaster occurs causing us to lose power, it will not be dependable LCEC who will restore our power? It will be the city’s responsibility! Do you really think they can do a better job?
The unions are in favor of buying LCEC and have funded their candidates with big donations. There is an old saying that you can serve only one master – who do you think the master is that the union candidates will be serving?
In the primary election, approximately 12 percent to 14 percent of registered voters cast ballots. This gives the impression that whatever the council does is of no concern to: you, the people who live and work in Cape Coral; you, the people who pay the taxes, fees and assessments; you, the people who have to budget your money to meet your needs. However, you will be greatly affected by the council’s decision. If you do not want LCEC to be run by this city, you must absolutely get out and vote! Make your voices heard loud and strong that you do not want this! Once the deal is done, it will be impossible to reverse!
You must get everyone you know to get out and vote for the three candidates who will stand firm against this grandiose, irresponsible idea. Those candidates are Kirk Lagrasta, Chris Cammarota and Tim Barrier. They are the ones you can trust to listen to you and keep your welfare in mind.
