Time to put the past behind us

2 min read

To the editor:

Robert E. Lee, Southern gentleman, supporter of slavery, racist traitor, war criminal, murderer, county named in his honor, portrait in county chambers.

Outstanding?

I doubt everyone agrees with that.

Again we are having this discussion which, for all practical purposes, should have ended years ago. We continue this because there is a group of depraved citizens who want to hold on to the past and teach their progeny about how they hate and kept (those) people in line. They don’t give a damn about what others think.

This is not about Robert E. Lee. His misdeeds are done and his DNA is at the top of the mountain. This is about us and what type of people we are.

The NAACP is a fine organization, however it is a bit ancient. You are correct, the “C” is for “colored.” Unfortunately, I don’t know any colored people. Unfortunately, the colored people’s DNA joins with that of Lee’s. That term colored got an F grade in the ’60s. It never made the passing grade. There was some loving but misguided people who thought they had to help those poor African-Americans who had been beaten up by the likes of those who write those racist attacks in your hate bag (mail-bag). Yes, those who gain their manhood by doing such. The progeny of the Robert E. Lees.

By the way, most African-Americans are fortune enough to not live in Dunbar, some might just be your neighbor. They were able to escape the profiling and access white privilege.

I am sure there are a lot of good people in this county who want to put this behind them. When the county commissioners do not depend on the depraved for their power, things will change.
