Random Thoughts…
To the editor:
*) Since by the narrowest of margin, the Supreme Court has now ruled same-sex marriage legal under the U.S. Constitution, there would seem to be no way, either intellectually nor constitutionally, to deny polygamy within the United States.
*) For those who want to call us “flat-earthers,” I think it is possible, and very probable to not believe in man-made global warming, and to also not believe the earth is flat.
*) The hyperbolic criticism and mockery of Tim Tebow probably has more to do with his faith than his football and more to do with his witness off the field than his mechanics on the field.
*) Why is it that conservatives who usually believe that public education is the prerogative of the state and local governments, are usually the quickest and loudest to complain when it comes to state mandated tests and local mandatory exams?
*) It would be a great gesture by the leadership at Florida Southwestern, in connecting the past to the present, if they were to do something significant at the new gymnasium for former Edison Buccaneer Coach Hugh Thimilar.
*) Does anyone actually think Israel will allow Iran to build a nuclear bomb? Israel will not allow someone who says they have no right to exist as a nation, the power to drop on them a nuclear explosion. If history is our guide, the United States had a very real problem with our archenemy, the Soviet Union, placing nuclear bombs 90 miles off of our coast in Cuba. The President might want to study the Missiles of October.
*) President Obama has just started a nuclear arms race in the Middle East. After the President’s “arrangement” to allow Iran to possess, there is no way Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Egypt won’t “nuke up” as soon as possible. Why do President Obama and Secretary John Kerry trust Iran and the ayatollahs more than they trust Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu and the State of Israel?
*) Isn’t it possible to believe legal immigration for our country is a very good and noble thing, while at the same time believe that illegal immigration into our country is a very lawless and dangerous thing?
*) Show me a country that has open borders and I will show you a land that will not be a country much longer. As we have historically seen in the past, citizens who cannot speak the same language and communicate with each other, have a very difficult time remaining a part of one nation without the use of military force.
*) Whenever I hear someone say “All wars are bad and all wars are useless.” I wonder if they really mean the Revolutionary War, Civil War, World War II, Cold War, and the War on Terrorism. Can you imagine America and the rest of the world without the success and outcomes of those wars?
*) There are some historians, intellectuals, and social commentaries who are now insisting that Ronald Reagan really was not a conservative. They are re-writing historical facts. To say Reagan was not a conservative is like saying FDR was not a liberal.
*) Why is it that Planned Parenthood can sell for cash viable body parts of aborted viable babies, which is a clear violation of federal law, and no one goes to jail? It appears we have an Executive Branch along with the Justice Department that is picking and choosing what laws they want to enforce and which laws they choose not to ignore.
*) Those Americans trying to drive God, Judeo Christian values, and religion out of our country and culture, should take a look at the nations throughout the world without the values and freedoms that come from faith.
*) The idea of not being “judgmental” seems to be a one-way street. Censorship and Orwell’s “Thought Police” are coming from the Left, not the Right, in America today.
*) To quote Bob Dylan, “You don’t have to be a weather man to know which way the wind is blowing.” If you consider yourself to be a conservative, evangelical, constitutionalist, you know that the wind is blowing 100 m.p.h. straight into your face today. The only question is whether you will dig a hole and hide, (until the weather improves), or whether you will stand like an oak tree regardless of the danger.
*) My guess is that pretty soon there will be an official clinical diagnosis of the addiction and compulsion to cell phones and texting.
*) You have to give it to the Democratic Party nationally. Whenever one of their own get’s into trouble (Hillary Clinton), they circle the wagons and protect their own. But whenever a Republican candidate messes up, the Republican Party usually begins circular firing squads. How is it that Hillary Clinton has not been indicted?
*) The Supreme Court’s “Citizen’s United” decision to allow basically no limits in campaign donations was a very ominous decision. Now it appears, that if we as a nation are not very careful, we will end up with an extremely wealthy oligarchy in Washington D.C. To be ruled over by the wealthy, privileged political class of elites is not what a Democratic Republic is supposed to be. Historically, the more distance between the rulers and the ruled over, the more chance of a violent confrontation.
*) Those Americans who want the United States to act, behave, and legislate more like the nations of Western Europe, probably should take note of the nonconsequential and powerless nature on the world stage of the Western European countries combined.
*) Henry Ford is quoted as saying “Any man who thinks he can be happy and prosperous by letting the government take care of him better take a closer look at the American Indian.”
*) How is it that “Sanctuary Cities” are even legal? It appears as if they are purposely and flagrantly violating the federal laws.
