Picking and choosing and politics

To the editor:

I find it interesting that when the Cape Coral Police Department presentation on extended bar hours stated the problems that could occur, the majority of the City Council voted against what appeared to be the “expert” opinion of the police department. Yet, now some council members support the “expert” opinion that lowering the residential speed limit is not a good idea due to the cost of enforcement. One can only surmise that “expert” opinion only applies to City Council members when it supports one’s position.

CCPD does a great job and, yes, more emphasis needs to be spent on traffic control on the major streets starting with Del Prado Boulevard and Cape Coral Parkway.

On a side note, the Interactive Crime Map link on the capecops.com is really a great tool for tracking thefts, assaults as well as traffic stops (DUIs, crashes, etc.) I did notice while viewing the map for traffic related incidents it appears that the Lee County Sheriff’s makes most of the traffic entries, while CCPD is making the DUI entries.
