All city employees deserve raises
To the editor:
While reading ” On the Move” today, I was very happy to see that our police and fire departments received a well deserved raise.
Nowhere in that article stated however, raises for the men and women who also keep this city running smoothly 365/24/7. They too, haven’t received a raised since 2009. But, a lot of these employees are meaning substantially less than the police and fire.
What about the Utilities Department? Do you know these guys are called out at any hour of any day to fix a main break regardless of how awfully hot it is or time of day? The night before Thanksgiving, while families were preparing for their feasts, several men were called out to repair a water main.
The people in city hall, who without them, this city would grind to a complete stop. No customer service, no permits to be issued, nothing!!
These people deserve a substantial raise. They not only haven’t received a raise, they gave money back, twice!! First through a forced furlough, then they had to give back 5 percent. Now we are about to enter 2015.
It’s time to show these employees some love.
