A once-proud American

4 min read

To the editor:

There was common sense, patriotism, truthfulness, compassion and care for the fellow man; especially there was an understanding for and an acceptance of a moral culture. It was a code of conduct that served to make America the greatest nation on earth.

So what happened…why are we now the laughing stock of the world?

The answer is not complicated and the decline rests firmly on the shoulders of pin head politicians who believe that they are above the law and, once elected, are answerable to no one. They lie, they cheat, they steal, and they laughingly spit on the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the Ten Commandments.

Let’s start with the way our returning home war heroes have been treated. They were sent into foreign lands, placed in harms way, and directed to fight for our freedoms and for liberty around the world.

Many, after doing their duty, have returned home injured and desperately in need of medical attention. These are not bums, these are members of our armed forces who have served honorably, are now home and who need help.

While politicians babble and play golf, and fight with one another, the bravest among us, thousands of them, are placed on a waiting list, with many dying before their name is called and many more left writhing in pain.

And still today, even after the VA.s scandalous behavior is exposed, we still have not done our duty.

That’s right, instead of devoting all of our time and attention to a moral obligation to our service people, the President is busy attacking our constitution, defending criminals, and playing political games.

And then there’s the IRS debacle. A federal agency targeting individuals who do not ride the same train as the current administration and, in conflict with the law, conducting themselves in a despicable and un-democratic fashion. And then, to add insult to injury, the IRS administrators have the unmitigated gall to stand before the Congress of the United States, place their hands on the Bible, and then lie.

The lies are obvious and no one is held accountable – no firings and no arrests. Another nail into the heart of our democracy.

As for the shameful national debt, before Mr. Obama became president the debt stood at $5 trillion dollars. Obama called this a disgrace by the president at that time and absolutely un-American.

He promised to reduce the obligation during his presidency. The debt now is nearing $18 trillion dollars. We’ll be passing on to generations to come a sickening obligation, and the Obama administration acts as if our owings are a reflection of good and sound governing. This, yes, un-American, debt will wind up choking America!

As for the immigration issue. Two years ago Mr. Obama opined that it was unconstitutional for him to make changes in the law. It was, he said, “the job of the Senate and the House of Representatives to make laws…and that’s simply the way our democracy is structured.” Now, he says that he – as if he had become a king with supreme powers, – does have the authority to change the immigration laws.

His reason?

He’s tired of waiting.

Sorry Mr. Obama, you don’t get congressional authority because your patience has expired. What you may wind up getting is impeachment and we would say that this was richly deserved.

Setting aside many other administration falsehoods, all deserving of severe condemnation, here’s another misplaced priority that makes us sick.

The Obama administration actively supports punishment for eagle egg destruction. The fine is $250,000 and the deed carries an imprisonment of up to two years.

Here we agree, destroying eagle eggs is absolutely senseless.

However, every year, with no resistance from this administration, we slaughter millions of unborn children. Not only is there no penalty for this wanton uncivilized murderous activity, taxpayer money funds abortion providers.

Think about it Mr. President: These murders rest squarely on your shoulders and if you won’t speak out against this atrocity you demean all of us.

Mr. Obama, if you want to leave a legacy that you can be proud of, stop the politics, end the lies, re-build the moral fabric of this nation and act presidential. Americans are not stupid, as Mr. Gruber proclaims, and I would recommend that you begin listening to the will of the people and read and be guided by the Ten Commandments.
