‘Common sense’ candidates needed to lead the Cape
To the editor:
In November 1976 when I was 16, I remember hearing about Jimmy Carter being elected as our new president while taking the bus to school. I recall being upset and in disbelief. That event caused me to get interested and involved in politics. It also made me realize how important it is to vote.
Fast forward to the present day makes voting more important then ever.
As a resident and homeowner in Cape Coral my elected legislators have recently voted tax after tax (fire assessment tax, utility tax) and one look at our current city council and I can see this current trend continuing on and on.
The citizens must get out and vote “common sense” officials into office. We need people who know how hard it is to make an honest buck, and realize how important it is to keep that buck in THEIR own pocket. After all, we must be able to put food on our tables and pay our bills. The city must learn how to make ends meet just as we do.
Next year in 2015 we have an opportunity to replace four seats on the present council, we must put forth candidates who will put our residents first. If only 11 percent to 13 percent of the electorate show up at the polls, we are doomed to our own failures.
Come on Cape Coral this is not a pipe dream, we can do this.
