Above and beyond

To the editor:

I am writing this letter in regard to a recent experience that I had while visiting Cape Coral. I arrived on Thursday, Aug. 21, and ended up in the emergency room at Cape Coral Hospital on Sunday, Aug. 24. A doctor examined me within 20 minutes, who immediately diagnosed me with appendicitis. After blood work and a CT scan it was determined that my appendix had burst.

I was in surgery by early evening and I am happy to say that all went well. I was in the hospital for five more days. I cannot say enough about the great care that I received in the emergency room as well as in the hospital. Everyone was caring, professional, and attended to my needs in a timely manner. A special thanks to Dr. Bertrand Fonji, M.D. who did my surgery on a Sunday night! When I thanked him for saving my life, he humbly responded that he was “only doing my job”.

I have been in several hospitals in Pennsylvania for many surgeries in the last few years and there are people who truly are “only doing their job” and then there are the ones who go above and beyond. I was treated by the above and beyond at Cape Coral Hospital. I apologize for not being able to name everyone personally, but I thank each and every one of you who treated the girl who was on vacation whose appendix burst! You all made an unfortunate situation much better due to the wonderful care that I was given.
