Stop piling on Ray Rice

1 min read

To the editor:

It’s enough already. Ray Rice did the wrong thing. His girlfriend at the time did the wrong thing as well. They were both drunk. Neither had the abilty to think straight. She hit him and he hit her. It was shameful on both sides, and certainly deserving of punishment.

But, for pete’s sake, let’s lighten up.

It is not deserving of castration. Or the ruination of his career. Or the continuation of an investigation that can serve no purpose.

It’s time to develop a code of conduct register for the NFL, see that it is enforced and make sure that the punishment is not intrusive or excessive.

It would be good to remember “let he who is without sin throw the first stone” and then step back, take a deep breath, and stop with the “holier than thou” attitude. This would not represent an endorsement for violence. It would, instead, be a reflection of a society anxious to help rather than hurt a good man.

There is absolutely no reason why we should not see Ray Rice back on the football field.
