With latest tax, city can have these properties

To the editor:

This is the letter I sent to the Cape Coral city manager regarding the Fire Assessment:

I AM OUTRAGED AT YOUR CONTINUED ADDED ASSESSMENTS and NOW A FIRE ASSESSMENT!

I give up, you can just take the properties. All the taxes and assessments are more that what I can sell it at.

I do not need fire protection on my vacant lots!!

I will not be paying your Fire Assessment. (See page 2 for the list of my properties.)

These were bought to help subsidize my retirement when I sell them. I am age 68 and have only my Social Security, no company or municipality pension, like you.

ONE HOMESITE lot on SW 4th Ct. I was OFFERED a max of $5,000.

I bought it for $160,000 +; PAID wastewater & irrigation & stormwater assessments aprox $10,000 +; still on tax bill for many years to come; PAID water assessment, $7,310.

Not counting all the taxes, that totals $177,300 I’ve PAID. Yes I could sell for 4,000 to $5,000 soon.

Then there’s all the other lots, I can get less than $5,000, (see page 2 for list.)

Well, you can ask Lee County to pay all your assessments. Lee County will own them, for non-payment of real estate taxes. I give up! I can NOT keep paying.

This is the last straw!! I have talked with many other people that feel the same way.
