Outlawing smoking and legalizing pot makes no sense
To the editor:
As one who prides himself on a common sense approach to most things, I cannot understand our nation and its states looking to outlaw smoking at the same time looking to legalize the use of marijuana (or Mary Jane) a presently illegal drug. Have we all gone wacky? Or is this what we now consider our norm for the day?
Good lord, are all the people we have put in positions of power gone to the point that they are all sniffing the weed? It certainly does seem that such is the case when you can read a headline “Smoking bans become common across the U.S.” which appeared in the other paper. Smoking is not murder and I do believe we could never have won World War II, nor number I for that matter, if it were not for the existence of the cigarette.
How many guys out there shared a cigarette in a landing barge headed for a hostile beach? Or, how many did likewise in some far away foxhole so many years ago?
The butt – while not the greatest thing in the world – gave much pleasure and solace to many long-gone generations, and that should not be forgotten. by all the do gooders and nuts that are in existence today
None of us can live forever, so lay off the butts if your contemplating the legalization of the weed, or other presently illegal drug, and, as the saying goes “Give us a break.”
