Hospital board viewpoint disgraceful
To the editor:
When a mindless mindset is displayed by children we insist on parental supervision in order to avoid a situation whereby eventual maturity will be adversely affected. When elected officials act like idiots and uncaringly babble incoherently we then realize why our health and welfare is in serious danger. The issue as illustrated in a recent newspaper article concerning Hospital Board absenteeism.
The sickening statements made by the board chairman require an immediate retraction and a condemnation by every board member. To say that people should be paid for their efforts when they do not show up for the meetings and therefore do not do the job they are being compensated for is to endorse nothing less than stealing from the system and cheating Lee County residents.
It surely leads us to believe that this position, which overseas an annual budget of more than $1 billion is in the hands of people who cannot understand simple elements of right from wrong.
And, then, for this same individual to opine that “I don’t think it’s our job to police our fellow board members” other concerns then come into question.
Those who agree with the chairman, should be ashamed of themselves and should do the right thing and resign.
Those who disagree should express that so that respect for the board can be restored and we can, once again, believe that the Lee County Hospital system is being steered by responsible and rational individuals. People, in any capacity, should only be compensated when they work and earn the compensation. And as for the “policing,” of course that’s your job, we’re depending on you to be honorable and professional and we expect no less. You’ve been elected to do a job, do it, and stop attempting to justify being disingenuous jerks. This editorial is being sent to each board member and an immediate reply would be appropriate.
