Misinformation provided at Brandt’s Town Hall meeting
To the editor:
At Mr. Brandt’s town hall meeting on Feb. 19, he stated to a group of supporters that the facebook page, “Get out and Vote…Take Back the Cape” (www.facebook.com/takebackthecape) is part of a Shadow Government. I am not sure what he meant by that.
As one of the page administrators I have sent him an email asking him to clarify his position statement. To date, I have yet to receive a response.
Many of the Road Ahead supporters who support the Contract with Cape Coral have the misconception the page means that we want to take things back to the way they were (whatever that was or means to them).
No, what it means, plain and simple, is that we want to take it back to a time when our elected officials represented all the people of the city. Not just the minority few voted for and who elected the current seated body, who then in turned appointed another one of their own supporters. Misinformation should never purposely be given to the public, and if it is given out erroneously, every effort must be made to correct it.
It is very important that we all vote in the primary and in the general election. Your voice must be heard. What happens at the local level affects us much more than what happens at the national and even state levels.
The Facebook page wants to eradicate voter apathy and one of the ways that we do that is to voice our concerns over what happens here locally. It is so very important. Please take the time to register to vote. If you are a busy person, request an absentee ballot, and if you think that your vote doesn’t matter, it most certainly does. Never doubt that a small group of people can’t make a difference, it is truly the only thing that ever has.
