Cape Coral is not business friendly

3 min read

To the editor:

I am demanding the immediate resignation of all members of the Cape Coral City Council. This council is the worst group of men I have ever seen in a political office. The Cape Coral city council is anti-business, determined to shut down small family owned businesses, and determined to eliminate jobs in Cape Coral.

I am a small business owner in Cape Coral. We operate out of our home and offer part time jobs to the citizens of Cape Coral. Recently we have received three citations for parking our cargo trailer in our driveway. Our trailer is clean, well maintained, and only 8 feet long. It is not an eyesore, and the neighbors do not care about the trailer in the driveway. Regardless, the city of Cape Coral hates us because of our trailer, and has set out to shut us down. Our business is currently struggling to remain in business and offer part-time jobs. We do not have the extra cash to store our trailer elsewhere. If we are forced to move it, we will have no choice but to close and let our employees go. Clearly this is what the Cape Coral city council wants, but I am not going to have some communism regime tell me how to operate my business.

Speaking of eyesore, have you looked at the Cape Coral City Hall building lately? It looks like something from the 50s. That building is a larger eyesore then my 8-foot cargo trailer in my driveway.

I have created a facebook page called “Cape Coral Communism” and it’s open to anyone who wishes to join. I encourage all small business owners who are threatened by the city council to join and share their horror stories. I have made contact with the Governor of Florida and the White House. I also have spoken to Fox 4 news and a story will be forthcoming soon. I will plan on having rallies in front of the City Hall building and I encourage others to join us. The citizens of Egypt rallied and finally got the attention of their government. Perhaps if we rally strong, the city council will listen and make changes. These events will be placed on the Facebook page.

The city council also spent time and energy creating a law that requires citizens to place their empty trash can in a certain spot. Why wouldn’t the council spend this time and energy on finding jobs for the citizens of Cape Coral? Do you really believe that the city council cares about the citizens of the Cape when they focus on empty trash cans? When I asked the councilman about the garbage can law, I was told that “the citizens complained about the trash cans.” Well, the citizens also complain about their property taxes being high, but the council does nothing about that.

This council has abused the citizens of the Cape for long enough. It’s time we stand up and remove this regime immediately.

Thank you for your support,

Jason Barrett
