Know your city

To the editor:

During the past several months I have had the privilege of attending Cape Coral’s Citizens and Police academies. We all complain and criticize our local governments, but how many actually do something about it? I found that this is a real opportunity to actually learn and understand the inner workings of our local government. These two programs lasting approximately 12 weeks each, require the participant to attend a class each week for about four hours. The training is conducted by employees of each department with many of them providing this training on their own time.

While not required, or even suggested, I found myself volunteering some of my spare time in one of the city’s departments doing research.

I would like to thank all of the Cape Coral city employees who made these most rewarding classes possible. You are greatly appreciated! Those of you who would like to experience the city’s Citizen’s Academies may call the Cape Coral Police Department for information on the Police Academy and the Cape Coral City Manager’s office for information regarding the Citizen’s Academy. I recommend both – you will thoroughly enjoy them!
