Radar guns don’t provide for accurate stories

On June 6, WINK operated a radar gun on Gleason Parkway and displayed the results of an automobile speed in their story which was reported on June 7 by Jennifer Stacey.
In 2003 WINK news used their radar to report excessive speeding by Collier County Sheriff’s Patrol. They were reprimanded for their use of radar without a FCC license. Later they were using their radar on Veteran’s Parkway to say that Cape Coral Police was not doing its job properly. Again, the use of radar was looked upon with disdain.
Now they are doing it again. If you would care to look at the FCC regulations regarding the use of radar, it can be found on your computer at: www.freqofnature.com/resources/radarlicensing.html.
It also says that the radar gun must be calibrated by a licensed expert prior to using. Did they do such calibration? If not, do we know the speed shown was accurate? When will they understand that there are better ways to illustrate a story? Does WINK really think that it is all right to ignore these federal regulations to report a local story?
