Young families mean more services

When recently asked by a friend where I stood on the idea of a new olympic-sized swimming facility for the northern part of our Cape Coral, I replied “I really do not have a position pro or con on such an entity, but do have an open mind on whether to support it or not.”
I do realize that our Cape Coral was originally started as a senior citizen bedroom community, which catered to the retired, but, since that long-ago time things have changed and we now have a populous well over the 100,000 mark and an age bracket between 43 and 45, so change just naturally causes a need for change.
Old folks do not need all that much but young folks do and certainly do demand and need more probably in every way.
We have many schools loaded with children which was a condition we did not have at the outset of our inception. So a consideration for this condition has to be given to the young parents of all these kids when they view something as this “pool project” as something to benefit their children. Right or wrong they are entitled to their opinions, and in a democratic society like ours allowed to fight for it.
As for me, I can take it or leave it and will accept whatever decision our city council chooses to take so long as it keeps the best interests of our city uppermost in their minds. Like it or, whatever is decided, life goes on, and we are all a long time dead, so let’s not go off the deep end on this one.
