Spending again?
To the editor:
Cape Coral is once again considering spending a lot of our tax money. Let me see if I can understand what our council people are thinking. Just this year we have a police officer to pull a gun on a 12-year-old for smoking a cigarette. We can’t afford to send him back to Officer Training School. We have another officer who doesn’t realize that putting his car in park when he leaves it will avoid doing damage to four parked motorcycles. We can’t afford to send him to Driving School. By the way, has anyone heard of disciplinary action being taken on these officers? They are considering assessing some residents because they can’t afford to pave the roads. They are raising the water bills because of the $400 million dollar plant they built will not have enough customers to pay for it. The list goes on and on. Now they are considering putting $25 million dollars along with $10 million dollars put in by Lee County to build an Olympic size swimming pool complex. They think this “might” be self-supporting because they have already spent tens of thousands of our tax dollars studying it. Did anyone hear of this study when it began? Could this end up like the water plant? I was under the impression that we were in a depressed economy. I thought that meant we had to tighten our belt. Why does Cape Coral have so much trouble finding money to spend on some things but have plenty of money to spend on other things?
