What are we paying taxes for?
To the editor:
To the people of Cape Coral. The city council has come up with some very novel ideas to try and close the budget gap.
1) An assessment of X number of dollars for utilities that may or may not be installed. But if they are the homeowners will be given a credit. That is if by that time they are installed they can determine who owned the property and who gets the credit without interest
2) If your road needs repair they will assess each homeowner the cost of the project.
3) If you want more street lighting they will assess each home owner the cost of installing new light poles, or they could install meters on each light pole and if you wanted light just put a coin in the meter attached to each pole.
4) In reference to your water and sewer bill, you would receive six days of water usage if you wanted the seventh day you would be assessed, and each homeowner would be allowed to flush their toilet 20 times per day; any additional usage you would have to put coins in the meter attached to the toilet. Showers would be free.
If you see a row boat going in circles on the Caloosahatchee it is our city council, which has lost an oar, they need to assess the residents for the other oar, then they will need someone with leadership to row.
Where I come from all of the above were what you paid taxes for.
As you can see the ideas of new assessments are endless. These are not tax increases since the Gang That Couldn’t Shoot Straight promised in their campaign literature they would not raise taxes. My good people of Cape Coral, have you had enough yet.
