Feichthaler for city manager
To the editor:
The new Cape Coral mayor and council are faced with their first enormous decision. Rumor has it that Eric Feichthaler, former Cape mayor, would be willing to consider the city manager position if it was offered to him. And, what this means is that the city, struggling with a new mayor and council members and, of course, floundering because of inexperience now has the opportunity to secure a city manager who knows the city and can immediately lead us through some dangerous wilderness.
As mayor, Eric Feichthaler was respected by the city staff and served with dignity and grace. He is held in high regard in every corner of the county and is recognized as being a competent leader statewide. He has been characterized as an honest, energetic, business savvy executive and he would make for the ideal city manager.
In selecting a city manager, now is not the time for guess work, or dalliance, or the harboring of petty political pinheaded pomposity. Factually, no candidate for this vital position knows the issues better than Mr. Feichthaler. No possible candidate can hit the ground running and make an instant impact on the solving of urgent problems.
And, no possible candidate would come to the job having already earned the respect and admiration of both the business community and the citizens in the Cape.
Mayor Sullivan, members of the council, if you have an opportunity hire Eric Feichthaler for the job of city manager, jump at it. He’s bright. He’s honest. He’s talented. He’s energetic and extremely hard working. He’s articulate. And, he will help make your administration more effective.
It would be good to remember that it’s never the wrong time to do the right thing and amazing opportunities don’t present themselves every day.
