Time to move the city forward
To the editor:
Yes, we can conquer adversity. we have hope!
I want to thank our departing mayor and council members for their service to our city. Most often than not, it is a thankless job. I want to congratulate and thank our new mayor and our three new council members for all their hard work to get elected and for stepping up to the hot plate of public service.
These eight mortal, imperfect humans have been entrusted with an awesome power that touches people’s lives. They have a civic and moral responsibility to diligently examine all the facts and carefully consider all the public input offered on all issues that are presented to them, for our governance. Their recommendations and decisions will have far-reaching consequences for years to come. I plead with them, for all the residents of this city, to please exercise that awesome power with fairness and wisdom.
Historically, the best interests of the common residents have not always been top priority, as they should have been! Hopefully that will change.
I hope they can all work together with our city staff to do the people’s business in the most cost-effective, efficient and productive manner. They will be confronted with very difficult issues never before experienced by our city. We all need to look in the mirror and get on board to steer this city to better times. The people along with their wise governance can conquer any adversity.
We all need to be aware! Be alert! Be informed! and Be involved! We have hope! Yes, we can make a difference.
I quote from ~ Margaret Mead: “Never doubt that a small group of citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.
