Vote accomplishment, vote Bertolini

To the editor:

On Sept. 19 in the Breeze, I asked the voters to “Know the Candidates, not the Mantra.” So, I bring forth this example to help the voters truly understand the focus I was urging them to take as they reviewed the candidates, their experience, and their positions relative to the Cape and its opportunities for the future.

For this purpose, I will use one elected official’s personal information. This person brought the new landscape ordinance to fruition, worked tirelessly for the new VA hospital, was a key member of the SR 78 expansion effort, has brought the aquatics center opportunity to the city, was a major factor in upgrading the architectural design standards for the city, has been a voice of fiscal control and reason on council, has brought the national tracker program for Alzheimer patients and their caregivers to the Cape, is an ongoing participant with the American Cancer Society initiatives in the Cape, and has been an active community participant in so many areas for over 20 years. Of course, this person is Councilwoman Dolores Bertolini, who deserves the citizens’ ongoing strong support and their vote in the upcoming election on Nov. 3.

I truly hope that the voters of Cape Coral will exercise their constitutional right and vote on Tuesday. For those who do, I pray that they will vote for those candidates presenting themselves in a positive light, who own strong positive beliefs as to where the city is, where it needs to go, and how these individuals will guide us to that goal. The time for sound bites is long past and negativity is old and tiring. A focus on those matters of critical importance relative to the positive future of our city, the vision for it by the candidates, and the confidence that the voter has in their selected candidate is what should be the critical decision criteria of the electorate.

As do all cities, we have our issues and our opportunities. Let’s resolve the former positively and avail ourselves of the latter aggressively for the betterment of the city as a whole by voting for those candidates who have a vision and a direction for the city.
