John Sullivan for mayor

To the Editor

I only demand two things from my local politicians, fiscal responsibility and accessibility. I called John Sullivan the other day in late afternoon and left a message thinking he would call me in the morning. My phone rang a few hours later at 8 p.m. John and I spoke for over half an hour. I have spoken twice with John Cataldi on the telephone. Both candidates are for fiscal restraint. So much so that they intend to do a “forensic” audit of what has been going on at City Hall for the last several years as well as the UEP.

On the other hand, I sent the incumbent mayor a letter and never got so much as an acknowledgement of receipt let alone any kind of reply. And as far as fiscal restraint goes, we all know where he stands on that – spend, spend, spend. I get a gut-full of that from those idiots in Washington, I don’t need or expect it in the town I live in.

I found Cape Coral in 1995 and dreamt about retiring here some day. That dream finally came true three years ago. But now that I am back here I have become very disillusioned with the government in this city. It seems like all the present establishment wants to do is break the backs of the citizens with all their grandiose schemes.

The present administration in D.C. is in the process of bankrupting this country and the present regime in City Hall is on its way to bankrupting the city of Cape Coral. If the present gang of “spend and tax” scoundrels gets back in for another four years, I’m out of here before the town has to declare bankruptcy and I lose my house to the city/county through the exorbitant tax increases and UEP assessments.
