Get out and vote

When will it be time for the people of Cape Coral to take advantage of one of the greatest rights we have as Americans. That is the right to vote. We have a very important general election on Nov. 3.

A reminder for the 90 percent who didn’t vote in the primary: This election is for the mayor and some council seats, which all carry only one vote. We have a mayor now who has worked very hard with the financial problems of the people and the city of Cape Coral to keep things going forward. He, with his one vote has helped to cut the budget by $50 million and helped lower the UEP contract cost for home owners to get water. We need to keep moving forward.

One man running has promised to change a lot of things if elected mayor. Remember he only has that one vote. Those who yelled the loudest about the RO plant and discontinuing the UEP, I believe are the ones who voted in the primary. If the rest of us are happy for paying for the RO plant we don’t use, be happy with higher utility bills and don’t bother voting.

The primary election was an embarrassment to me and should be for all the citizens who took the time to vote. Your tax money paid for our primary election and only about 10 percent of the citizens voted. You talk about the city wasting money. Look at all of you who didn’t vote. The 90 percent who didn’t bother to vote wasted my tax dollars. The poll I worked had 2,700 registered voters and only 400 bothered to vote. The precinct next to us had only eight people vote in the 12 hours that we were open. You, the people, are as guilty of wasting our tax money, like you accuse the city council and mayor of doing.

We have early voting, absentee voting and voting at the polls. Everyone is hammering us for more money? The only way I know to stop it is to vote. The power of the ballot in Cape Coral will be the voice of the people if we all use our right to vote. Remember those who have died and are dying right now to preserve our right to vote. God bless our military who are fighting for our rights. Lets not let them down. Exercise your right to vote.
