Vote the Road Ahead slate

To the editor:

It is apparent that the Contract with Cape Coral, signed by several candidates and two sitting council members, is causing many to react to this innocuous contract as though it were something other than what it is, a contract to support the resident of the Cape.

It is a commitment to the people of Cape Coral, by the signers, to listen to and work for the benefit of residents and homeowners. These candidates are running on a platform, committed to by the signers, stating they will do all possible for the residents and homeowners of the Cape. How can that be worrisome except to those who definitely are concerned that these candidates will be elected and their priorities will no longer be the only considerations taken by the newly elected council members?

Many who are only interested in keeping the status quo are proclaiming that something is wrong with a contract that intends to benefit residents and homeowners. Why would a contract that states the signers will do all they can to benefit the people of the Cape be something considered as suspicious?

What needs to be asked is why some would be concerned that newly seated council members who ran on a platform pledging to help taxpaying residents of the Cape is so alarming to them. Perhaps, with several candidates putting their campaign promises into a written and then signed document for all to read, the special interests believe they will no longer be getting preferential consideration from council. These are the people who are worried. I’d say, about time they were worried.

Those who believe the Cape should not change fearing change will mean resident and homeowners will finally be listened to will do all they can to stop change from happening. It is time for changes and it is time for special interest groups/people to know they have had their time . Now is the time for the residents and homeowners of the Cape. Your vote for John Cataldi, Chris Leetz, Jim Martin and John Sullivan will bring about changes we should have received at the last elections.

Let us make sure this election sees change happen for the benefit of all residents and homeowners who do want change.
