Vote for the candidates who will lower taxes
To the editor:
My wife and I moved to Cape Coral one year ago believing the false information that it was such a wonderful place to live. We have found quite the opposite, and believe the only chance for serious change is a proper mayor and city council.
Our greatest problem concerns the incredible and unjust taxes we are now required to pay, and if this situation continues, we like so many others will begin in earnest to find a good place to live away from Cape Coral where the town will not demand our “last dime.”
The information we received from your article regarding each potential mayor and the incumbent has us really doing our homework. We will not vote for the present mayor as he can’t even vote on such a serious issue as the UEP. A “conflict of interest” seems inappropriate and perhaps he serves too many masters.
A position that concerns us is the statement by several of those running in this election , and it is: We will not advocate any NEW taxes. This concerns us because it shows us that they already accept our present situation. Wrong! The millage rate must be reduced now by a considerable amount. The status quo-or present conditions are totally unacceptable by most residents of Cape Coral.
I hope those who are running for office here take this to heart! The one who advocates and can accomplish a firm reduction in taxes gets our vote.
